Securing the Infrastructure Behind 21% of Global Shipping

Challenge
As a global leader in shipping and logistics operating across 675+ offices in 155 countries, MSC’s rapid growth and large-scale migration to Azure introduced significant network complexity. As the environment expanded, maintaining visibility, segmentation, and control became increasingly difficult to manage through manual processes alone.
Penetration tests reinforced the urgency to strengthen internal defenses, but traditional approaches required extensive log analysis and manual rule creation that couldn’t keep pace with the scale of the environment. At the same time, any disruption to core systems could impact infrastructure that supports global trade and supply chains.
MSC needed a way to harden its network quickly and comprehensively – without slowing operations or introducing instability across its global footprint.
Solution
MSC turned to Zero Networks to automate segmentation and simplify policy creation across its rapidly growing cloud environment.
Zero’s agentless architecture enabled the team to implement granular, least-privilege segmentation without deploying additional software or increasing operational overhead. Automated discovery and learning provided visibility into how systems communicated, allowing policies to be generated and enforced based on real traffic patterns rather than manual assumptions.
With automation handling what previously required hours of analysis and rule management, MSC gained the scalability needed to protect its complex infrastructure without disrupting day-to-day operations.
Result
With Zero Networks, MSC successfully scaled segmentation across its global environment, achieving approximately 95% coverage of servers after previously spending more than a year on manual, resource-intensive efforts.
“What once took more than a year of manual work and endless log analysis is now fully automated. We’ve segmented about 95% of our environment, gained complete visibility into network activity, and dramatically strengthened our defenses.”
Sergio Fedelini, SVP, IT Infrastructure, MSC
Automation eliminated hours of log analysis and rule management, allowing the team to strengthen security without adding headcount. Most importantly, Zero enabled MSC to deploy strong protections without operational disruption – helping secure the infrastructure that keeps global shipping and supply chains moving.
